Spring Updates!

After wrapping up the Trifecta Dance Festival in January, Trifecta has been busy in the studio preparing for the remainder of 2019. I am so excited for the upcoming performances and events we have in store, from our Engage Series to the much anticipated June debut at the Athenaeum Theatre, presenting Mosaic. Read on to learn more about what we’ve been up to, and how we can connect with you this season!

The mission of the Trifecta Dance Collective is to ignite a community dialogue through an artistic lens.  Our mission is carried out through the three E’s: Engage, Empower, and Expand. For our 2019 programming, we have been especially inspired by the word Engage and are diving into what it looks like to Engage more deeply with other artists and our audiences, using art to stay present in the moment.

I love the unique ability of live performance to bring people together. Beginning with the rehearsal process, dancers connect and work together with other artists to bring a vision to life. Next, the audience experiences the time-bound performance that only exists in the present. Even with the same material, no two performances will ever be the same. I love this shared experience.  Everyone-audience, dancers, artists-in the same place, seeing the same thing, at the same time, that can’t be replicated. Art has a powerful ability to engage us, shake us out of our routine, and bring a room of people together. This inspiration has led to the Engage Series. Our spring Engage performance is a phone-free evening with live music, dance (and more), followed by our summer Artist Lab, which pairs choreographers and artists to create new, multi-disciplinary dance works.

In June, we present Mosaic at the Athenaeum Theatre, a collaborative evening of dance and theatre bringing together three Chicago performance companies under one roof. Part one features performances by special guests, Cocodaco Dance Project. Part two premieres Trifecta’s annual collaboration, In.Grained. This year we partner with documentary theatre company, Erasing the Distance, to tell the story of one woman’s experience living with anxiety and depression, and her journey toward healing.

We’d be honored to Engage with you this year, have you in the audience for one of our performances, and artists, we invite you to apply for our Summer Engage Artist Lab. You can read on for upcoming performance and event info, or visit www.trifectadance.org to learn more.
